Opera in the midsummer night
The Arena di Verona hosted its first Italian opera over 100 years ago and has remained a summer attraction for opera fans due to its outstanding acoustics.
It is the second largest Roman amphitheatre (the Colosseum in Rome is the largest) and holds up to 22,000 visitors. The stage covers an area of 1,500 square meters, making it difficult for stage directors, but the challenge is always magnificently overcome. This turns every performance into a monumental, open-air experience. Absolutely magnificent!
On Saturday July 7th first performance of Giuseppe Verdi's Nabuco directed by Anraud Bernard which successfully inaugurated the Opera Festival 2017.
Verdi's drama will be performed on 6 evenings, until August 18th.

The 'Queen' of then the Arena di Verona's Opera titles Aida, will be staged from June 23rd 2018, in 16 performances with Franco Zeffirelli's remarkable sets, enriched by costumes by Anna Anna.

The 2018 Festival will be inaugurated on June 22nd with a new production of Carmen directed by Hugo de Ana and staged for 13 evenings.

Starting from June 30th 2018, Turandot by Giacomo Puccini will go on stage under the skillful direction of Franco Zeffirelli.
From August 4th 2018 for 5 evenings Gioachino Rossini's Il Barbiere di Siviglia is staged trasforming the Roman Amphitheater into the grad garden created by Hugo de Ana in 2007, enriched by Leda Lojodice's fun choreography and characterized by the giant, evocative roses.
